Screening of USDA Onion Germplasm for Fusarium Basal Rot Resistance
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fusarium basal rot (FBR) caused by oxysporum f. sp. cepae (FOC) is a major threat to onion (Allium cepa L.) production and marketing worldwide. Finding new sources of FBR-resistance develop synthetic cultivars priority for breeders. As there are no FBR-resistant short-day cultivars, 85 U.S. National Plant Germplasm System plant introduction accessions that originated from 23 different countries were screened their FBR susceptibility. To compare susceptibility these at seedling mature bulb stages, susceptible check cultivar, NuMex Crimson, partially resistant Serrana its selected population, Serrana-sel, included in the study. The screening was performed after inoculating silica-sand media with virulent FOC isolate ‘CSC-515’ 1.0 × 104 macroconidia g−1 sand. Each entry evaluated twice growth chambers, percent survival adjusted number seedlings germinated uninoculated trays. Mature bulbs produced field transversely cut plates potato dextrose agar plugs containing spores same 3.0 mL−1. severity incidence then calculated 20 days incubation. Significant variation found among FBR-susceptibility (p < 0.001) both stages. Two sets 18 identified either higher or compared checks. Among them, PI 256326 (‘Baia Periforme’, originator cultivar ‘Serrana’) had than checks, lower check. Another accession, 656956 (‘S015’), exhibited low (4.3 on 1 9 scale) (41.7%). These two accessions, which known previously high intra-population heterogeneity root resistance FBR, respectively, show promise incorporating into cultivars. rankings could vary future studies range isolates due interaction as observed past studies.

Characterization of Flax Germplasm for Resistance to Fusarium Wilt
Fusarium wilt of flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lini (Fol) is an economically important disease that can result in severe yield losses. Due to the pathogen’s ability to survive in soil for long periods, it is essential to identify fusarium wilt resistant flax varieties. The objectives of the study were to phenotype and compare a recombinant inbred line (RIL) p...

Nineteen safflower genotypes (Carthamus tinctorius L.) that originated from different geographical regions were screening for their response to infection with Macrophomina phaseolina, the charcoal rot pathogen at the research farm of Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, Gorgan, Iran, in 2005. The plants were evaluated for length and width of necrotic lesion at the e...
متن کاملPhenotypic and Molecular Screening of Tomato Germplasm for Resistance to Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus
Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) is a major tomato virus in tropical and subtropical regions. In this study, 134 accessions of Solanum lycopersicum and six accessions of Solanum peruvianum were assessed for resistance to an Iranian isolate of TYLCV. Plants were inoculated using whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci) and the reaction of plants was evaluated based on either disease symptoms or viral DN...

Part of the first author’s Ph.D. thesis. PROBIOL, UNCuyo, Argentina. ABSTRACT Fusarium basal rot (FBR), which is caused predominantly by Fusarium oxysporum and F. proliferatum, is the main limiting factor of onion crops. Resistant cultivars obtained in other countries do not behave as such in Argentina crop fields. The cultivars AntárticaINTA, Grano de Oro-Seminis, Valcatorce-INTA and TW-2007 (...
متن کاملGenome-Wide Association Study and QTL Mapping Reveal Genomic Loci Associated with Fusarium Ear Rot Resistance in Tropical Maize Germplasm
Fusarium ear rot (FER) incited by Fusarium verticillioides is a major disease of maize that reduces grain quality globally. Host resistance is the most suitable strategy for managing the disease. We report the results of genome-wide association study (GWAS) to detect alleles associated with increased resistance to FER in a set of 818 tropical maize inbred lines evaluated in three environments. ...
